Every Woman Sierra Leone Reinforces Community Action to Protect Women and Children in Mabap Community

Every Woman Sierra Leone (EWSL) has taken another significant step in promoting the rights and protection of women and children through a successful community awareness engagement held in Mabap Community, Makeni, Bombali District.
The outreach brought together women, community elders, young people, and children in an interactive discussion focused on women’s rights, children’s rights, gender equality, and the prevention of rape, domestic violence, and other forms of abuse. Community members actively participated by asking questions, sharing experiences, and discussing practical ways to make their community safer for women and children.
A major climax of the meeting was the commitment made by a respected elderly woman in the community, who volunteered to work closely with Every Woman Sierra Leone by reporting cases of rape, domestic violence, and child abuse. She also pledged to encourage survivors and families to speak out and seek support, reinforcing the message that violence should never be hidden or tolerated.
Speaking after the engagement, members of the community expressed appreciation to Every Woman Sierra Leone for bringing vital information directly to them and empowering residents to become active partners in protecting the rights of women and children.
“This is exactly the kind of partnership we want to build with communities,” said Every Woman Sierra Leone’s Program Manager Beatrice Tholley. “we want to see real and lasting change where communities take ownership of protecting their women and children. Together, we can break the silence, prevent violence, and ensure that every woman and every child lives with dignity, safety, and hope.”
The engagement forms part of Every Woman Sierra Leone’s ongoing commitment to building informed, resilient, and violence-free communities across Sierra Leone through education, advocacy, and community-led action.
