WHEN SILENCE WINS, SURVIVORS LOSE
Every Woman remains resolute in its mission to combat sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) across communities. As part of our ongoing campaign, we continue to intensify advocacy efforts through community engagement, awareness-raising, and education aimed at breaking the culture of silence and impunity.
Our team is actively engaging community in Bombali District, women, men, parents, and young people on the realities of SGBV, the importance of speaking out, and the available reporting and support mechanisms. Through these conversations, we are not only sharing knowledge but also challenging harmful norms and encouraging collective responsibility.
At the heart of our message is a firm and uncompromising stance:
Sexual and gender-based violence must never be settled at home.
When cases are handled in silence or resolved informally, survivors are denied justice. Silence shields perpetrators, discourages reporting, and allows cycles of abuse to continue unchecked. True justice can only be achieved when cases are brought forward, addressed through proper channels, and met with accountability.
Field Officer Jeneba Aruna underscores the urgency of this work:
“Every step we take toward awareness is a step toward justice. When communities are informed, they are empowered to act. Together, we can break this cycle and build safer spaces for everyone.”
Encouragingly, community members are stepping forward and raising their voices.
Musa Kamara, a father, pledged:
“I will protect my daughter’s future by speaking out and refusing to stay silent. Our children deserve better.”
Ya-Marie Conteh, a mother and community advocate, added:
“We stand together as parents and as a community. Fear will no longer decide our children’s fate.”
What We Aim to Achieve
Through this campaign, Every Woman seeks to:
• Increase awareness and understanding of sexual and gender-based violence
• Promote the use of formal reporting channels and survivor support services
• Challenge harmful cultural practices that normalize silence and informal settlements
• Empower communities to take collective action against abuse
• Strengthen accountability and protection for survivors
Why Community Engagement Matters
Engaging communities on issues of SGBV is critical because it:
• Breaks stigma and encourages open dialogue
• Builds trust in reporting systems
• Empowers individuals to recognize and respond to abuse
• Encourages men and boys to become allies in prevention
• Creates safer, more informed, and more protective environments
Sexual and gender-based violence is not a private matter—it is a societal issue that demands collective action.
Join us. Speak up. Refuse silence. Demand justice.
Together, we can build a future where every woman and girl is safe, heard, and protected.
