Every Woman Sierra Leone Strengthens Knowledge Through Family Support Unit- FSU Makeni Capacity-Building Training
Every Woman Sierra Leone (EWSL) has taken another step forward in advancing its mission to promote women’s rights and gender equality by participating in a one-day capacity-building training organised by the Family Support Unit (FSU) Makeni Division.
This exclusive training was designed to strengthen the EWSL team’s understanding of critical gender issues, national policies, general laws, property rights, and marriage rights in Sierra Leone. It provided an opportunity for EWSL staff to deepen their knowledge of the legal frameworks that protect women and girls, as well as the systems in place to support survivors of gender-based violence.
The training session was headed by Madam Frances Kargo, representing the FSU Makeni Division, who shared valuable insights into the work of the FSU, including its role in handling gender-based violence cases and providing support services to affected individuals.
On behalf of Every Woman Sierra Leone, Madam Beatrice Tholley, Program Manager, provided a comprehensive background on the organization’s work, outlining its community-based programs, advocacy efforts, and ongoing projects aimed at empowering women across Sierra Leone.
Throughout the day, both FSU officers and EWSL staff engaged in interactive discussions, sharing their experiences, challenges, and recommendations for improving the protection of women’s rights. Participants emphasized the importance of collaboration between civil society organizations like Every Woman Sierra Leone and government agencies such as the FSU in order to strengthen responses to gender issues at both the community and national levels.
This training marks a significant capacity boost for the Every Woman Sierra Leone team, equipping them with enhanced knowledge and tools to better advocate for women’s rights, raise awareness, and support women and girls in need.
Every Woman Sierra Leone extends its appreciation to the Family Support Unit Makeni Division for facilitating impactful training and looks forward to continued partnership in the fight for gender equality and justice in Sierra Leone.
